Each year, Dan Dos Santos and Irene Gallo ask about a dozen artists to create a 5×7 painting of their choosing. These miniatures are exhibited at the Society of Illustrators and placed on auction with all proceeds going to the Society’ student scholarship fund.
This year’s contributors pulled out all the the stops and created an amazing exhibit. This years contributors are: Scot Altmann, Scott Bakal, Rick Berry, Bill Carman, Jon Foster, Donato Giancola, Michael Kaluta, Tim O’Brien, Omar Ravvan, Allen Williams, and Boris Vallejo.

3DValley Featured 2D Artist of March 2009 – Gareth Southwell. Gareth is a freelance artist/illustrator based in the UK. He is specialized in figurative work and his preferred medium is black and white line drawing, though he does venture into color when the occasion demands. At the moment he is illustrating a series of philosophy books and working on his own comic project. He has published work in magazines in Europe, America, and Australia, and regularly contributes to The Philosophers’ Magazine. 3DValley Featured 2D Artist for October 2008 – Stina Wiik. Stina is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer for over ten years. She lives and works in Sweden. She is an illustrator with a background in fine art, illustration, and graphic design. She has studied art and took an part-time apprenticeship of several years with artist, art teacher, and art historian Björn Dolk. Today she does all kind of illustrations for printed matter and digital use. Her passion and goal is children’s book illustrations. She used to sketch the first ideas on paper, but nowadays she more often use digital tools right from the beginning to finished work. 3DValley Featured 2D Artist for September 2008 – D’wayne Murphy. D’wayne is an artist from California, US. During day time he works as an production artist/ graphic designer at a Real Estate Company. In the late evening hours when it is nice and quite he allows his creative juices and energies to flow and creates horror and fantasy illustrations. He works with various programs like Photoshop, Painter, Poser, Bryce, Terragen, and since recently also ZBrush. 3DValley Featured 2D Artist for May 2008 – Dawid Michalczyk. Dawid is an artist from Denmark. He started as an admirer from CG art and art collector but soon started out doing digital art himself. Today he works as a freelance artist and runs his own one-man business Eonworks. He is specialized in concept design and texture painting but also does illustrations and book covers. And although he loves what he is doing, his real passion lies in his personal works which gives him the freedom to create an imaginary world that tells a story.
