What is PD Particles?
PD Particles is a software program for sketching, doodling, painting and drawing with particles. In addition it's also a natural painting program, just like his big brother PD Pro but with less features. Its a natural painting program because it's lets you copy the effects of traditional materials like and oil paint, watercolor but also charcoal, tempera or pastels.

This tutorial explains how I created my images "Somewhere" and "Beach" in PD Particles, with a little help of PD Pro/ Project Dogwaffle.

step 1.
I first opened a blank image (800x 600) in PD Pro/ Project Dogwaffle, to get a sky picture. Select render from the Filter menu and then select Sky. I rotated this image twice 90° clockwise, saved it and opened it in PD Particles. A similar sky image can be created in PD Particles by filling your image with a gradient and using an airbrush to create clouds.

Step 2.
I applied some "earth parts" directly on the sky image. The Earth parts are painted with the airbrushes. I used various shapes and colours to get the right look.

Step 3.
To finish the landscape, I added presets from the Particles menu: There are many different particles presets to choose form. I used various types of grass: baddy grass and Dogwillow, among some others.

I went rather fast doing this and I discovered later that I could have get some different harmonies on the grass if I had used the powerful "gradient index" menu, which offers a wide range of colours with each specific particle brush.
